Disciple of Deceit turns any tap ability into a Transmute tutor — discard a card of the mana value you want, find exactly that card from your library. The catch is that it needs to be tapped to trigger, so you're building around enabling that condition rather than just slotting it in anywhere.

Commander is the natural home for Disciple of Deceit — the 100-card singleton format rewards precise tutoring more than any other, and Transmute's discard cost is softened by the slower, resource-rich pace of multiplayer games. In Legacy and Vintage the card is legal but irrelevant; those formats want the most efficient possible interaction, and a two-mana 1/3 that requires a tap to search is nowhere near that bar. Modern and Pioneer are similar stories — Disciple of Deceit competes for slots with far more powerful value engines and sees essentially no competitive play. Oathbreaker is the one non-Commander format where it could plausibly show up, since the singleton tutor effect scales well with the 60-card constraint, but the format's smaller community limits how often that actually materializes.
