In Commander, Coerced to Kill is a role-player in Assassin-tribal builds and a serviceable budget removal spell everywhere else — the token it leaves behind is a genuine upside rather than a consolation prize. Outside Commander, the competition in black removal is steep: Modern and Pioneer have cheaper, more efficient single-target removal that doesn't ask you to commit to a tribal subtheme, so Coerced to Kill rarely makes those 60-card lists. Legacy and Vintage have no use for it at all. Standard is its most plausible non-Commander home if an Assassin synergy deck materializes, but no such shell currently exists.
