Brightstone Ritual card art
Brightstone Ritual turns a board full of Goblins into a mana explosion — one red mana in, potentially ten or twenty out, all at instant speed. It's a cornerstone of Goblin storm and combo shells, and the reason Muxus, Goblin Grandee can close a game the same turn it resolves; the only thing Pili-Pala has in common with it is the ceiling on what a single spell can generate.

Best Commanders

Commanders with the highest synergy

01
Muxus, Goblin Grandee

Muxus, Goblin Grandee

73.7% of decks · synergy 0.61

Muxus, Goblin Grandee dumps six or more Goblins onto the battlefield at once, and Brightstone Ritual converts that flood directly into the mana needed to activate Muxus again or fuel a same-turn win — it's in 74% of Muxus lists for exactly this reason.

02
Krenko, Mob Boss

Krenko, Mob Boss

67.4% of decks · synergy 0.55

Krenko, Mob Boss doubles Goblin counts every turn, and Brightstone Ritual scales directly with that — after one or two Krenko activations, a single copy produces enough mana to reactivate Krenko, cast Haste enablers, or go for a combo in the same turn.

03
Wort, Boggart Auntie

Wort, Boggart Auntie

55.1% of decks · synergy 0.54

Wort, Boggart Auntie fills the board with recursive Goblins over a long game, and Brightstone Ritual converts that wide board into the burst mana needed to chain spells and close out before opponents stabilize.

04
General Kreat, the Boltbringer

General Kreat, the Boltbringer

59.2% of decks · synergy 0.47

General Kreat, the Boltbringer incentivizes casting multiple spells in a single turn, and Brightstone Ritual provides the mana to do exactly that once the Goblin count is high enough — it bridges the gap between a full board and a lethal chain of instants.

05

Grub, Storied Matriarch

40.8% of decks · synergy 0.39

Grub, Storied Matriarch builds wide token boards over time, and Brightstone Ritual lets those boards convert directly into mana for a finishing push rather than just swinging into blockers.

Format Analysis

Where it lives, where it can’t

FormatVerdict
commander
legacy
modern
pioneer
standard
vintage
pauper
oathbreaker

Commander is where Brightstone Ritual does its real work — Goblin tribal decks in the format routinely hit the board states where it produces five to fifteen mana, and the instant speed means it functions as both a ritual and a combat trick for go-wide kills. In Pauper, it sees play in Goblin combo shells for the same reason: it's legal, cheap, and the format's Goblin density makes it explosive. Legacy and Vintage allow it, but non-Goblin combo decks have no interest and Goblin decks in those formats rarely need the effect given access to stronger acceleration. Oathbreaker gives it another home if the signature spell or planeswalker rewards burst mana, but Commander remains the format where Brightstone Ritual is genuinely essential rather than merely legal.

Price Context

Current price

$3.16 cheap tier

At $3.16, Brightstone Ritual sits at the high end of budget-staple territory — more expensive than most one-mana rituals, but justified by the fact that it's a four-of-a-kind effect only available on this specific card. It's a mandatory inclusion in Goblin combo builds, so demand is consistent and the price is unlikely to move much in either direction.
