Breya's Apprentice enters, makes a Treasure, and replaces itself when you sacrifice an artifact — that's two effects stapled to a two-mana body, and the ceiling rises sharply once Nim Deathmantle or a similar recursion loop enters the picture. Compare it to Pia Nalaar, Consul of Revival and you're in the same design space, but the Apprentice's draw trigger is easier to abuse at scale.
Best Commanders
Commanders with the highest synergy

Pia Nalaar, Consul of Revival
Pia Nalaar, Consul of Revival already rewards you for sacrificing artifacts, so Breya's Apprentice plugs in as both a Treasure producer and a draw engine in the same slot — 62% of Pia decks run it, which isn't surprising given how cleanly the two cards reinforce each other.

Chiss-Goria, Forge Tyrant
Chiss-Goria, Forge Tyrant wants artifacts in play and in hand constantly, and Breya's Apprentice provides both — the Treasure funds future casts while the sacrifice trigger refills your hand as you feed Chiss-Goria's affinity-adjacent cost reductions.

Rocco, Street Chef
Rocco, Street Chef generates Food and incidental artifacts, giving Breya's Apprentice repeated sacrifice fodder so the draw trigger fires without dedicating extra slots to enablers.

Breya, Etherium Shaper
Breya, Etherium Shaper's own sacrifice outlets make triggering Breya's Apprentice trivial, and the Treasure it generates feeds back into Breya's activated abilities — low synergy score relative to the others, but the mechanical fit is real.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Breya's Apprentice is legal in Commander, Legacy, Modern, Vintage, and Oathbreaker, but Commander is where it actually shows up. In Vintage and Legacy the competition at two mana is brutal — there are faster, more impactful artifact payoffs that don't ask you to jump through a sacrifice hoop for card advantage. Modern is theoretically viable in artifact-sacrifice shells, though it hasn't carved out a real role there either. Commander is the right home: the 100-card singleton format rewards enters-the-battlefield value and incremental draw more than any other, and Breya's Apprentice delivers both on a single card.

$0.31 bulk tier
At $0.31, Breya's Apprentice is pure bulk — easy to acquire, easy to trade for, no financial barrier to testing it. Bulk rares with genuine combo and engine potential tend to stay cheap until a deck archetype pushes them into wider demand, so don't expect the price to move unless artifact-sacrifice strategies spike in popularity.
