Blood Funnel card art
Blood Funnel cuts two generic mana off every noncreature spell you cast — an enormous discount that warps how fast artifact and enchantment decks can operate. The catch is real: you have to sacrifice a creature or counter the spell yourself, which makes it a trap in anything that doesn't already want creatures dying or has a way to offload that downside. Blim, Comedic Genius and Noctis, Prince of Lucis are the commanders that flip that liability into a feature.

33.2% of decks · synergy 0.33

Blim, Comedic Genius gifts permanents to opponents, and Blood Funnel turns that strategy into a discount engine — the creatures Blim's targets replace become fodder for the sacrifice trigger, letting you chain cheap noncreature spells while keeping the political nightmare rolling.

Format Analysis

Blood Funnel is legal in Commander, Legacy, Modern, Vintage, and Oathbreaker, but it's never cracked any competitive Constructed format in a meaningful way — the self-sacrifice clause is too punishing in game states where every creature matters. Commander is where it actually lives, specifically in sacrifice-matters builds and artifact storm shells that generate disposable creature tokens as a byproduct of their main gameplan. In Legacy and Vintage it's theoretically castable alongside artifact combo decks, but faster and cleaner cost-reducers exist for those formats. Commander remains the only context where the downside regularly converts into an upside.

Price Context

Current price

$2.33 cheap tier

At $2.33, Blood Funnel sits in the cheap tier — accessible enough that there's no real budget barrier to running it. It's a narrow card with a loyal audience in sacrifice and artifact builds, so the price is stable rather than likely to spike unless a new commander creates a breakout home for it.
