Blanket of Night converts every land on the table into a Swamp, which means any deck running it gets immediate, global access to Swamp-dependent payoffs without touching a single basic — including your opponents' lands. At three mana with no ongoing cost, it's one of the cheapest ways to neutralize Linvala, Keeper of Silence's protection-from-colored-land-type tricks and unlock abilities that key off Swamps.

Commander is where Blanket of Night earns its slot — the multiplayer math is simply better, since it converts every land on a four-person board rather than just yours, making Cabal Coffers absurd and turning any Swamp-count payoff into a table-wide engine. In Legacy and Vintage it's legal but almost never played, because those formats move too fast for a three-mana enchantment that doesn't affect the board state in any immediately threatening way. Oathbreaker is a reasonable home for the same reasons as Commander, scaled down to two players and a smaller deck.
