Birthing Hulk enters as a 5/5, leaves two 1/1 Phyrexian Mite tokens behind when it dies, and its crew-style unblockable ability costs only one mana to activate — Training Grounds cuts that to zero, making the pump essentially free every combat. Seven mana is steep, but the guaranteed board presence on death makes this a serious value engine in any deck that wants sacrifice fodder or bodies that keep coming.

Birthing Hulk is a Commander card through and through — the seven-mana cost is only acceptable in a format where games go long enough to cast it, recur it, and abuse the death trigger repeatedly. In Modern or Pioneer, it's too slow and too replaceable to see competitive play; aggressive and midrange decks would never tap out on turn four-plus for a creature this expensive and this soft to exile-based removal. Legacy and Vintage have access to it but have no incentive to run it when faster engines dominate. Commander is where the Hulk earns its slot: sacrifice loops, Phyrexian tribal synergies, and token doublers all turn its modest rate into genuine inevitability.

Current price
$0.19 bulk tier
At $0.19, Birthing Hulk is deep bulk — you're picking this out of a common box, not budgeting for it. The price reflects limited competitive demand, and there's no pressure scenario that drives it higher unless a dominant Phyrexian commander breakout pulls the whole tribe upward.
