Behind the Scenes card art
Behind the Scenes gives your entire team menace for one white mana — that's a board-wide evasion grant at an absurdly low cost. The activated ability to grant skulk is narrow, but the static effect alone justifies the slot in any white weenie or go-wide build, and Felothar the Steadfast decks run it at over 84% inclusion for good reason.

Best Commanders

Commanders with the highest synergy

01
Felothar the Steadfast

Felothar the Steadfast

84.2% of decks · synergy 0.74

Felothar the Steadfast is a go-wide creature deck that needs its board to connect, and Behind the Stages turning every creature into a two-blocker problem is exactly the evasion engine it wants — 84% inclusion rate says everything.

02
Doran, the Siege Tower

Doran, the Siege Tower

58.9% of decks · synergy 0.49

Doran, the Siege Tower builds around high-toughness creatures swinging sideways, and Behind the Stages ensures those beefy walls can't be chump-blocked by two 1/1 tokens, making every attack a genuine threat.

03
Betor, Kin to All

Betor, Kin to All

30.2% of decks · synergy 0.20

Betor, Kin to All floods the board with creatures and needs them to get through; Behind the Stages upgrades that flood from a wide army into an army that demands two blockers per creature.

04
Alesha, Who Smiles at Death

Alesha, Who Smiles at Death

7.7% of decks · synergy 0.07

Alesha, Who Smiles at Death recurs small power creatures that would otherwise trade into anything, and Behind the Stages gives that recurring board enough evasion to threaten players who can't maintain two blockers per swing.

Behind the Stages is a Commander card first and foremost — the go-wide token and creature-swarm strategies that dominate multiplayer tables are exactly where board-wide menace is most punishing, and the cost of one mana to cast it means it rarely strains any deck's curve. In Modern and Pioneer, menace as a static enchantment competes against faster, more direct threat packages, and the lack of immediate board impact makes it a tough sell outside of dedicated synergy builds. Legacy and Vintage have zero interest — the powered card pools there make a three-mana enchantment with no ETB irrelevant. Oathbreaker is a reasonable home for similar reasons to Commander: go-wide signatures need evasion, and Behind the Stages provides it cheaply.

Price Context

Current price

$0.29 bulk tier

At $0.29, Behind the Stages is bulk, and bulk is exactly what it should cost for a card that sees nearly zero play outside Commander. It holds that floor comfortably — 84% inclusion in Felothar the Steadfast decks alone means consistent demand, but the card is too narrow and format-restricted to ever climb above a dollar.
