Bedevil card art
Bedevil hits any artifact, creature, or planeswalker for three mana — a catch-all answer that most Rakdos and Grixis shells are happy to cast at instant speed. The double-black pip is the only real cost, and Terra, Herald of Hope decks running dense black bases eat that restriction for breakfast.

Best Commanders

Commanders with the highest synergy

01
Terra, Herald of Hope

Terra, Herald of Hope

46.6% of decks · synergy 0.40

Terra, Herald of Hope curves naturally into Bedevil's double-black requirement, and the instant-speed flexibility means it can answer a planeswalker threatening to ultimate or a stax artifact clogging the board without disrupting Terra's own development.

02
Valgavoth, Harrower of Souls

Valgavoth, Harrower of Souls

66.5% of decks · synergy 0.32

Valgavoth, Harrower of Souls wants opponents to lose life on their own turn, and Bedevil pitches into that gameplan cleanly — kill their blocker or their draw-engine artifact at instant speed, keep Valgavoth swinging, watch the life-loss triggers stack.

03
Anhelo, the Painter

Anhelo, the Painter

46.7% of decks · synergy 0.31

Anhelo, the Painter turns every instant into a two-for-one, and Bedevil is one of the cleanest hits for that ability — pay three, get two permanent removals across two different permanent types, all at instant speed.

04
Mishra, Eminent One

Mishra, Eminent One

45.3% of decks · synergy 0.30

Mishra, Eminent One floods the board with artifact tokens, making opposing artifact removal a real threat; Bedevil answers the enemy Vandalblast setup piece or a creature that could invalidate the token swarm before it gets to untap.

05
Prosper, Tome-Bound

Prosper, Tome-Bound

59.4% of decks · synergy 0.25

Prosper, Tome-Bound generates value off every spell cast from exile, and Bedevil's clean three-mana slot slips comfortably into the curve — remove the biggest blocker or the opposing treasure-hoarding artifact without interrupting Prosper's engine.

Format Analysis

Where it lives, where it can’t

FormatVerdict
commander
legacy
modern
pioneer
standard
vintage
pauper
oathbreaker

Commander is where Bedevil earns its keep — the format is lousy with planeswalkers, Thran Dynamo-style mana rocks, and utility creatures, and Bedevil answers all three on the same card. In Modern and Pioneer, the competition is stiffer: Fatal Push and Terminate both cost less and cover most of the same ground, so Bedevil generally loses unless the meta is thick with planeswalkers. Legacy has even faster removal and better modal options, pushing Bedevil further down the list. Oathbreaker gives it a legitimate role again, where targeting opposing oathbreakers directly is a real line.

Price Context

Current price

$0.47 bulk tier

At $0.47, Bedevil is bulk — you're paying almost nothing for one of the cleaner catch-all removal spells in Rakdos colors. That price has a floor; it's a three-color staple with consistent Commander demand, so it won't crater further.
