Aurification

Enchantment

Whenever a creature deals damage to you, put a gold counter on it.
Each creature with a gold counter on it is a Wall in addition to its other creature types and has defender. (Those creatures can't attack.)
When this enchantment leaves the battlefield, remove all gold counters from all creatures.

Aurification card art
Aurification turns every creature that deals damage to you into a gold statue — each one gets a Gold counter and loses all abilities, and any creature with a Gold counter on it is a 0/4 Wall. It is a soft pillow-fort piece that taxes aggro players for attacking you rather than outright stopping them.

Commander is where Aurification actually sees play, and it earns its slot in creature-heavy metas where multiple opponents are swinging wide — over several turns the Wall-conversion tax stacks up and redirects attacks elsewhere at the table. Legacy and Vintage are legal formats for Aurification, but neither environment runs creature combat as a primary win condition at competitive tables, so it never shows up there. Outside those three formats the card is not legal. Stick to Commander if you're sleeving it up.

Budget Alternatives

Cheaper options that do most of the same work

Aurification's closest functional neighbors are Maze of Ith and Koskun Falls, but if budget is the constraint, Ghostly Prison and Propaganda do the same redirecting-attacks-away job for around $2–4 and hit every attacker upfront rather than taxing after the first hit. The trade-off is that Aurification permanently neuters the creatures that do connect, which Prison and Propaganda never do — if you want the ability-stripping and stat-reduction effect specifically, there is no true budget replacement, and Aurification at its current price is already the affordable option.

Price Context

Current price

$6.61 mid tier

At $6.61, Aurification sits in the mid tier — not a casual throw-in, but not a reserved-list trophy either. It holds that price through low reprint availability and genuine Commander niche demand rather than cross-format play, so the price is stable rather than exciting.
