Angel of Vitality card art
Angel of Vitality turns every life gain trigger into +2 life instead of +1 and pushes your starting ceiling to 25 — that math compounds fast in dedicated lifegain shells. It's the card that makes Aetherflux Reservoir lethal several turns earlier, and in Giada, Font of Hope it flies in as an Angel that immediately pays for itself in the tribal count.

Giada, Font of Hope

Giada, Font of Hope

66.2% of decks · synergy 0.53

Giada, Font of Hope runs every Angel it can trust, and Angel of Vitality earns its slot twice over — it's on-tribe for Giada's +1/+1 counter engine and doubles the life gain that white Angel lifegain synergies stack up across a long game.

02
Hope Estheim

Hope Estheim

40.7% of decks · synergy 0.38

Hope Estheim cares deeply about your life total as a resource, and Angel of Vitality's doubling effect means every incidental gain translates to a wider margin for Hope Estheim's cost-reduction and trigger conditions.

36.3% of decks · synergy 0.33

Will, Scion of Peace reduces spell costs based on life gained each turn, so Angel of Vitality's doubling effect directly translates to cheaper spells — more life gained means more mana saved.

Format Analysis

Where it lives, where it can’t

FormatVerdict
commander
legacy
modern
pioneer
standard
vintage
pauper
oathbreaker

Commander is where Angel of Vitality does its best work — lifegain is a supported archetype with enough redundancy that doubling each instance is a meaningful engine piece rather than a marginal bonus. In Modern and Pioneer, dedicated lifegain decks exist but the competition at two mana is stiff, and Angel of Vitality rarely makes the cut over pieces with more immediate board impact. Legacy and Vintage have no practical home for it. Oathbreaker can support it in the same lifegain shells that Commander does, just at a smaller table scale. Angel of Vitality is legal in Standard but that format lacks the density of lifegain payoffs to make it a build-around.
