Akroan Conscriptor sees essentially no competitive play in Legacy, Modern, or Pioneer — five mana for a sorcery-speed temporary steal is far too slow in those formats where the game is often decided by turn three or four. In Commander it finds its home, specifically in red spellslinger, theft, or combo shells that can recur or copy the effect; a single activation for five mana is marginal, but engines that let you recast it repeatedly make it a legitimate game-ender.
