Ajani Vengeant

In Commander, Ajani Vengeant is a niche include — four mana for a planeswalker that locks one permanent and drains life is fine, but the three-player threat environment burns through loyalty fast and the ultimate rarely resolves without a dedicated protection package. Legacy and Vintage have better four-drop options, and the lock-one-permanent ability doesn't scale to the speed of those formats. Modern is where the card sees occasional play in planeswalker-heavy midrange shells, though it's been largely outclassed by more recent designs. Oathbreaker is its best home outside of Ajani, Nacatl Pariah Commander builds — as the signature spell or a supporting piece, the targeted land lock plus recurring drain is genuinely disruptive at that format's pace.
