Magosi, the Waterveil + Nesting Grounds + Karn's Bastion

3-card combo · U

Verdict

Yes — this 3-land loop generates infinite turns in mono-blue by recycling Magosi, the Waterveil's eon counter indefinitely.

Magosi, the Waterveil normally eats an extra turn in exchange for an eon counter that eventually bounces itself, a built-in drawback that strands the card. Nesting Grounds and Karn's Bastion break that drawback entirely: Karn's Bastion proliferates a fresh eon counter onto Magosi each cycle, Nesting Grounds shuttles the counter off before Magosi self-bounces, then shuttles it back after Magosi is replayed. The only mana cost per loop is 5 across the two activations — achievable in any blue land base that can run all three colorless utility lands.

Recipe

How it works

01

Prerequisites

Magosi has at least one eon counter on it.

02

Steps

  1. Activate Karn's Bastion's last ability by paying {4} and tapping it, putting an eon counter on Magosi.
  2. Activate Nesting Grounds's last ability by paying {1} and tapping it, moving an eon counter from Magosi to Nesting Grounds.
  3. Activate Magosi's last ability by tapping it, removing an eon counter from it, and returning it to your hand, taking an extra turn after this one.
  4. Play Magosi from your hand.
  5. Move to your next turn.
  6. Activate Karn's Bastion's last ability by paying {4} and tapping it, putting an eon counter on Nesting Grounds.
  7. Activate Nesting Grounds's last ability by paying {1} and tapping it, moving an eon counter from Nesting Grounds to Magosi.
  8. Repeat from step 3.

Infinite turns; Lock

Variations

Cheaper, tighter, alternate lines

The combo has no real substitutes — no other cards replicate Nesting Grounds's counter-moving ability on a land, and Magosi's bounce trigger is the linchpin. The lock is real but setup-dependent: Magosi must arrive with an eon counter already on it, so the first extra turn has to be taken the honest way. Bounce or tuck targeting Nesting Grounds or Karn's Bastion at instant speed during the loop collapses the engine permanently, so protection like Cavern of Souls or Boots effects on the lands themselves are worth including.
