Pentavus spends 1 mana to pop off a Pentavite token, then spends another to sacrifice it back; Dross Scorpion sees the token die and untaps Sol Ring, which refunds the 2 mana spent each cycle. The loop nets zero mana on its own but fires infinite death, ETB, and sacrifice triggers — everything Marionette Master, Disciple of the Vault, or Altar of Dementia needs to close a game.

Recipe

How it works

01

Prerequisites

02

Steps

  1. Activate Sol Ring by tapping it, adding {C}{C}.
  2. Activate Pentavus's first ability by paying {1} and removing a +1/+1 counter from it, creating a 1/1 Pentavite creature token.
  3. Activate Pentavus's second ability by paying {1} and sacrificing the Pentavite.
  4. When the Pentavite dies, Dross Scorpion triggers, untapping Sol Ring.
  5. Resolve the Pentavus ability, putting a +1/+1 counter on it.
  6. Repeat.

Result

Infinite LTB; Infinite ETB; Infinite sacrifice triggers; Infinite death triggers

Variations

Cheaper, tighter, alternate lines

Sol Ring can be swapped for any artifact tapping for 2 or more colorless — Basalt Monolith or Thran Dynamo slot directly in. Any colorless artifact-heavy commander — Kozilek, Butcher of Truth, Emry, Lurker of the Loch, or Breya, Etherium Shaper — assembles this faster than it looks, but the combo does nothing without a damage or mill outlet in play.
