3-card combo · U

Verdict

Yes — this 3-card loop grants permanent protection from everything by recycling The One Ring's entry trigger every turn.

Each turn, casting The One Ring triggers Displacer Kitten, which blinks Jace, the Living Guildpact; Jace's minus-3 then bounces The One Ring back to hand, resetting the protection trigger for the next turn. The loop requires 4 mana per cycle to recast The One Ring and three loyalty counters on Jace to activate, so the combo demands mana acceleration and a Jace that has sat a turn to build counters. The table sees a soft lock — no damage lands, no targeted removal resolves — and has to find a way through blanket protection or kill the combo on the stack.

Prerequisites

02

Steps

  1. Cast The One Ring by paying {4}.
  2. Displacer Kitten triggers, blinking Jace.
  3. When The One Ring enters the battlefield, its first ability triggers, causing you to gain protection from everything until your next turn.
  4. Activate Jace's second loyalty ability by removing three loyalty counters from it, returning The One Ring to your hand from the battlefield.
  5. Repeat during each of your turns.

Result

Prevent all damage that would be dealt to you; You have protection from everything; Lock

Variations

Cheaper, tighter, alternate lines

Displacer Kitten pairs with any noncreature spell to blink a different planeswalker if Jace is answered; Otawara, Soaring City or any other bounce effect that targets an artifact can sub for Jace's minus-3 if needed. The loop doesn't win the game on its own — pair it with Thassa's Oracle or Laboratory Maniac as a closer, since the protection just buys time rather than ending things.
