Displacer Kitten + Frantic Search + Dark Ritual + Scrivener

4-card combo · UB

Verdict

Yes — this 4-card loop generates near-infinite storm count, looting, and black mana out of a Dimir shell with three blue-producing lands already in play.

Displacer Kitten blinks Scrivener on every noncreature spell cast; Scrivener returns whichever half of the Dark Ritual and Frantic Search pair just hit the graveyard, putting the other back in hand. The loop costs three blue-producing lands and one black source to start, then pays for itself as Frantic Search untaps those same lands each cycle — Storm, Kess, Dissident Mage, and Niv-Mizzet, Parun shells can all host it, but the black requirement makes pure blue builds awkward.

Recipe

How it works

01

Prerequisites

You control up to three lands that can tap to produce at least {U}.

02

Steps

  1. Cast Dark Ritual by paying {B}.
  2. Displacer Kitten triggers, blinking Scrivener.
  3. When Scrivener enters the battlefield, it triggers, returning Frantic Search from your graveyard to your hand.
  4. Resolve Dark Ritual, adding {B}{B}{B}.
  5. Activate up to three lands by tapping them, adding at least {U}.
  6. Cast Frantic Search by paying {2}{B}.
  7. Displacer Kitten triggers, blinking Scrivener.
  8. When Scrivener enters the battlefield, it triggers, returning Dark Ritual from your graveyard to your hand.
  9. Resolve Frantic Search, causing you to loot twice and untap up to three lands.
  10. Repeat.

03

Result

Infinite self-discard triggers; Near-infinite ETB; Infinite draw triggers; Infinite looting; Near-infinite storm count; Near-infinite LTB; Near-infinite mana lands you control can produce; Near-infinite magecraft triggers; Near-infinite black mana; Near-infinite untap of lands you control

Variations

Cheaper, tighter, alternate lines

Archaeomancer replaces Scrivener with the same ETB text and no power restriction — swap freely. The loop doesn't kill on its own, so pair it with Brain Freeze for infinite storm kills or Thassa's Oracle after milling the library; Frantic Search draws deeply enough that finding the closer mid-loop is realistic.
