Commander is by far the most natural home for Wingmantle Chaplain — the token generation scales with a full table's worth of Defender creatures, and the Nim Deathmantle loop is a legitimate win condition rather than a cute corner case. In Modern and Pioneer it's legal but lacks a competitive shell; Defender aggro shells prefer cheaper payoffs, and a four-mana 0/4 that doesn't immediately close a game doesn't clear the bar. Legacy and Vintage give it no meaningful upgrade path either — those formats don't want this effect at any price. Wingmantle Chaplain is a Commander card, full stop.
