Winds of Rath destroys every creature without an Aura attached to it — in an enchantress or Voltron shell, that reads as a one-sided board wipe at five mana. Gylwain, Casting Director staples Roles onto creatures as a matter of course, so Winds of Rath almost always clears the table while leaving your board intact.
Best Commanders
Commanders with the highest synergy

Gylwain, Casting Director
Gylwain, Casting Director distributes Role tokens across your creatures automatically, meaning Winds of Rath reliably kills every opponent's creature while leaving your entire board standing.

Three Dog, Galaxy News DJ
Three Dog, Galaxy News DJ buffs creatures with Aura-like attachments, so Winds of Rath functions as a one-sided wrath that keeps Three Dog's whole team alive while erasing the table.

Killian, Decisive Mentor
Killian, Decisive Mentor reduces Aura costs and pushes an enchant-creatures gameplan, giving Winds of Rath a board state full of Aura-wearing creatures to protect while it sweeps away everything else.

Eriette, the Beguiler
Eriette, the Beguiler steals and enchants opponents' creatures as part of her core loop, so Winds of Rath punishes opponents for having unenchanted boards while leaving Eriette's enchanted army untouched.

Uril, the Miststalker
Uril, the Miststalker is purpose-built to carry as many Auras as possible, making Winds of Rath the premier board wipe in the 99 — Uril survives, everything else dies.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Winds of Rath lives and dies in Commander, where enchantress and Voltron strategies are both popular and powerful enough to weaponize its asymmetry consistently. In Legacy and Vintage it's technically legal but irrelevant — five mana at sorcery speed for a conditional wrath can't compete in formats that end games on turns one through three. Oathbreaker offers a narrower but real home, particularly with an enchantment-themed planeswalker at the helm. Winds of Rath has no Modern, Pioneer, Standard, or Pauper legality, so Commander is where it earns every slot.

Price Context
Current price
$0.34 bulk tier
At $0.34, Winds of Rath is deep bulk — one of the most efficient role-players in Aura-based Commander decks relative to its cost. The price reflects casual supply more than demand, and a card that routinely reads as a one-sided board wipe at that price point is simply an auto-include wherever it's legal.
