Wear Away card art
Wear Away destroys an artifact or enchantment at instant speed, and convoke means a board of creatures can cast it for free. Naturalize has always been the baseline, and Wear Away beats it in any deck that goes wide.

In Commander, Wear Away earns its slot in token and go-wide strategies where convoke pays most or all of the cost — decks that would otherwise run Naturalize or Disenchant get a strict upgrade. In Pauper, where artifact and enchantment removal is a real deckbuilding consideration, the convoke ceiling makes Wear Away competitive with any common in the slot. Legacy and Vintage have access to Force of Vigor and other efficient options that outclass it, so Wear Away is a fringe inclusion there at best.

Price Context

Current price

$0.16 bulk tier

At $0.16, Wear Away is bulk — you're filling a playset for under a dollar. Bulk common removal doesn't appreciate, but it doesn't need to; the value is in what it does on the board, not what it does in a binder.
