Warcry Phoenix is a recursive threat that refills the board on its own if you can attack with three or more creatures — the self-return trigger does real work without spending a card. Syrix, Carrier of the Flame decks run it as an engine piece; Grand Warlord Radha decks use it to keep the attack count high and the mana flowing.

Syrix, Carrier of the Flame
Syrix, Carrier of the Flame's triggered ability fires every time a Phoenix dies or enters the battlefield, and Warcry Phoenix hands you both events repeatedly — attack wide, lose it in combat, trigger Syrix on death, bring it back next attack, trigger Syrix again.

In Commander, Warcry Phoenix slots cleanly into any red go-wide or attack-matters build — the three-attacker threshold is trivially met in token and combat-centric strategies, and the free recursive return is just card advantage at that point. In Pioneer and Modern it competes with a crowded phoenix slot and rarely makes the cut outside of dedicated phoenix tribal shells where the attack condition is harder to satisfy without build-around support. Legacy and Vintage have no real interest in a four-mana 2/2 flier with a conditional recursion trigger when faster threats exist. For most players, Commander is where Warcry Phoenix actually earns its slot.

$0.31 bulk tier
At $0.31, Warcry Phoenix sits firmly in bulk territory — low-risk to pick up and easy to trade for. Bulk rares with narrow tribal or attack-matters conditions rarely climb on their own, so treat it as a cheap role-player rather than a spec.
