Volcanic Vision card art
Volcanic Vision clears the board with a damage-based wipe and immediately returns an instant or sorcery from your graveyard — all on one seven-mana spell. The cost is steep enough that it belongs in decks that can either cheat it out or reliably hit turn seven, and Lorehold, the Historian is the poster commander for exactly that.

Commanders with the highest synergy

01
Lorehold, the Historian

Lorehold, the Historian

64.0% of decks · synergy 0.62

Lorehold, the Historian appears in over 63% of Volcanic Vision decks for good reason — the commander's instants-and-sorceries-matter engine turns every copy of Volcanic Vision into a recursive threat that keeps coming back as the game goes long.

02

Ashling, Rekindled

37.9% of decks · synergy 0.35

Ashling, Rekindled wants high-impact spells that double as removal, and Volcanic Vision delivers both a board wipe and a free recursion trigger that feeds directly back into Ashling, Rekindled's recast loops.

05
Ovika, Enigma Goliath

Ovika, Enigma Goliath

18.3% of decks · synergy 0.15

Ovika, Enigma Goliath creates Goblin tokens whenever a noncreature spell is cast, so Volcanic Vision generates a token flood the same turn it wipes opposing creatures off the table.

Format Analysis

Volcanic Vision is a Commander card through and through — seven mana is simply too slow for Legacy, Modern, or Pioneer, where games end before it resolves and faster interaction makes the recursion irrelevant. In those 60-card formats it is technically legal but functionally unplayable. Commander is where the card earns its slot: the singleton format's longer games and higher mana ceilings make seven mana reachable, and the board wipe plus free flashback stapled together is genuine two-for-one value at a point in the game where it often hits three or four targets.

Price Context

Current price

$0.33 bulk tier

At $0.33, Volcanic Vision sits firmly in bulk territory despite doing something no other single card does — wipe the board and recur a spell simultaneously. That price reflects its format-specific ceiling; it will likely stay cheap as long as it remains a Commander-only staple with no competitive crossover demand.
