Vilespawn Spider card art
Vilespawn Spider generates a 1/1 Insect token every upkeep for each creature card in any graveyard — in a self-mill deck, that engine can produce four or five bodies a turn by midgame. The catch is that it costs three mana for a 2/3 reach, so it earns its slot only if you're already filling graveyards; in any other shell it's just a bad blocker.

Sidisi, Brood Tyrant mills itself every time it attacks, and Vilespawn Spider converts that growing graveyard count into a second wave of token production alongside Sidisi's own Zombie triggers — running both means your graveyard is doing double duty.

Vilespawn Spider is a Commander card through and through — the token payoff compounds over many turns in a multiplayer game where graveyards fill up fast and reach actually buys time against fliers. In Legacy, Modern, and Pioneer it's outclassed by creatures that win games faster and don't require a loaded graveyard to justify their mana cost. Oathbreaker is the one non-Commander format where a self-mill signature spell could theoretically make Vilespawn Spider work, but the 60-card singleton construction still demands more from a three-drop. Stick to 100-card Commander lists built around graveyard synergy.

Price Context

Current price

$0.25 bulk tier

At $0.25, Vilespawn Spider sits firmly in bulk territory, and there's no pressure to buy in a hurry. Bulk graveyard payoffs rarely spike unless a new commander pushes the archetype into the spotlight, so the price is stable — grab a copy whenever you're already placing an order.
