Vile Mutilator card art
Vile Mutilator enters and forces each opponent to sacrifice a creature unless they let you draw a card — repeated access to that trigger is the whole game. Winter, Cynical Opportunist can blink or recur it on demand, making that may-draw mandatory pressure on every opponent every loop.

Akul the Unrepentant

Akul the Unrepentant

15.7% of decks · synergy 0.15

Akul the Unrepentant cheats creatures from the graveyard and hand into play, which means Vile Mutilator's ETB fires multiple times without needing external blink support — the sacrifice pressure stacks naturally with Akul's attrition gameplan.

03
Ardyn, the Usurper

Ardyn, the Usurper

13.0% of decks · synergy 0.12

Ardyn, the Usurper rewards draining opponents repeatedly, and Vile Mutilator forces a decision every time it enters — each opponent who refuses to let you draw instead feeds Ardyn's death-trigger economy with a sacrificed creature.

Vile Mutilator is a Commander card through and through — the ETB scales with opponent count, so the three-versus-one math of a pod makes it far stronger than any 1v1 format. In competitive non-rotating formats like Modern and Legacy, a 3/3 for four mana with no immediate board impact and no evasion simply doesn't clear the bar. Standard legality is largely academic; the effect is too slow for aggro and too replaceable for control. Commander is where the trigger's forced-sacrifice-or-draw clause actually creates meaningful decisions, especially in blink shells that reset it repeatedly.

Price Context

Current price

$0.28 bulk tier

At $0.28, Vile Mutilator is bulk — easy to pick up and easy to cut without regret. Given its near-exclusive home in Winter, Cynical Opportunist decks, the price is unlikely to climb unless that commander sees a significant spike in popularity.
