Vedalken Certarch taps any permanent for a single blue mana — one of the cheapest tap-down effects in the game — but the metalcraft condition means it does nothing until you have three artifacts in play. Treat it as a free piece of interaction in artifact-heavy builds; in anything else, it's a 1/1 with no text.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Vedalken Certarch sees essentially no play in Legacy, Modern, or Vintage — formats fast enough that a conditional tapper on a 1/1 body never justifies a slot. Pauper is where it has the most theoretical footing, since common-legal artifact synergies can satisfy metalcraft early, but even there it competes with more reliable interaction. Commander is its best home by default: artifact commanders like Breya, Etherium Shaper or Urtet, Remnant of Memnarch trigger metalcraft trivially, and a repeatable tap effect on any permanent has real political and defensive value across long games.

Pricing data isn't available for Vedalken Certarch at the moment, but as a common from a widely opened set it's historically been a bulk pickup — expect to pay next to nothing. It's worth grabbing a copy if you're building an artifact Commander deck, purely for the low opportunity cost.
