Unexplained Vision draws three cards and scrys three — respectable raw output for five mana. The problem is five mana at sorcery speed is a steep ask when Drawn from Dreams and Fact or Fiction do comparable or better work at four.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
In Commander, Unexplained Vision is a playable budget option in dedicated spellslinger decks that need raw card count over efficiency — you run it because it's legal, it draws three, and it costs pennies. In Pauper, common-legal draw spells are scarce enough that it sees genuine consideration, and the scry-three clause is meaningfully better in a slower format where setting up the next few draws matters. In Legacy, Modern, and Pioneer it has no competitive home — Ancestral Vision, Treasure Cruise, and even Divination-adjacent effects outclass it on rate. Vintage effectively ignores it for the same reason.

Price Context
Current price
$0.07 bulk tier
At $0.07, Unexplained Vision is deep bulk — the kind of card you pull from a common box without thinking twice. That price is stable because demand is nearly zero outside Pauper, so there's no floor to fall through and no ceiling to reach.
