Unburial Rites reanimates any creature from your graveyard for five mana — and the flashback means you get two shots at that effect from a single card. Kathril, Aspect Warper decks run it to recover a keyword-loaded creature after milling it, while Undercity Informer shells use it as a guaranteed second reanimation trigger buried in the bin.
Best Commanders
Commanders with the highest synergy

Kathril, Aspect Warper
Kathril, Aspect Warper wants its best keyword creatures in the graveyard, and Unburial Rites closes the loop by pulling them back onto the battlefield where those keywords actually transfer — 43% of Kathril decks run it for exactly that reason.

Raffine, Scheming Seer
Raffine, Scheming Seer mills cards aggressively through connive triggers, and Unburial Rites converts all that self-mill into a reanimation engine that scales with whatever threat ended up in the yard.

Sefris of the Hidden Ways
Sefris of the Hidden Ways cares about dungeon completion and creature recursion, so Unburial Rites doubles as both a recovery spell and a way to replay enter-the-battlefield creatures that fuel dungeon progress.

Karador, Ghost Chieftain
Karador, Ghost Chieftain already recasts creatures from the graveyard, and Unburial Rites gives a second angle of recursion — the flashback cost hits from the yard, which is exactly where it ends up in a graveyard-centric shell.

Athreos, God of Passage
Athreos, God of Passage decks lean on high-value creatures dying repeatedly, and Unburial Rites provides a hard reanimation backup when opponents pay the three life rather than let a creature return to hand.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Unburial Rites is legal in Commander, Legacy, Modern, Vintage, and Oathbreaker. In Commander it's a staple in any deck that mills itself or incentivizes creatures dying — two reanimation triggers on one card is exceptional card economy at the four-to-five mana range. In Modern and Legacy it sees fringe play in dedicated reanimator shells, where the flashback clause is particularly powerful because you can discard it to Faithless Looting or similar and still cast it from the graveyard. Vintage has faster and more broken recursion available, so Unburial Rites rarely competes there.

$0.28 bulk tier
At $0.28, Unburial Rites is outright bulk — you're essentially picking it up for free whenever you order singles. That price is unlikely to spike given repeated printings, so there's no urgency to acquiring copies beyond just needing one for your deck.
