Tyrannize forces every opponent to either discard their hand or lose 6 life — at instant speed, for four mana, in black. It's a haymaker in multiplayer: either three opponents dump their hands or you shave 18 life off the table.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Commander is where Tyrannize earns its keep — three opponents means the life-loss mode swings up to 18 damage or strips three hands simultaneously, numbers that simply don't exist in 1v1 formats. In Legacy and Vintage it's legal but nearly unplayable; one opponent means Tyrannize is a strict downgrade to Blightning or Hymn to Tourach at a higher mana cost. Oathbreaker has the same multiplayer math as Commander, so the card functions there too, though the faster pace of that format makes four mana a steeper ask.

Price Context
Current price
$0.36 bulk tier
At $0.36, Tyrannize is deep bulk — no surprise for a card that sees almost no competitive play outside of casual Commander. It's unlikely to move unless a critical mass of players discovers the multiplayer math, so pick it up cheap and don't expect it to appreciate.
