Triton Cavalry taps to give a creature hexproof until end of turn — a defensive ability that shores up aura-based or voltron strategies against targeted removal. The cost is real: four mana for a 2/4 with an activated ability is too slow for most formats, but in Commander shells built around Ivy, Gleeful Spellthief, every protection spell becomes a two-for-one.

Triton Cavalry is a fringe Commander inclusion — it exists almost exclusively in enchantress or aura-voltron builds that need redundant hexproof sources and can tolerate a four-mana 2/4. In Legacy, Modern, and Pioneer, four mana for a conditional tap ability competes against free or near-free hexproof options and simply doesn't make the cut in any competitive shell. Oathbreaker has the same problem: the format's compressed game length punishes slow, defensive bodies. Stick to Commander, and even there, only run it if the deck genuinely needs the eighth or ninth copy of this effect.
