Trapjaw Kelpie card art
Trapjaw Kelpie enters the battlefield and immediately exiles a nonland permanent your opponents control until it leaves — repeatable removal stapled to a body whenever you can blink or reanimate it. The cost is real: it's a four-mana 3/3 that does nothing without a flicker or recursion engine, and it folds to the same removal it's trying to answer, but pair it with Mikaeus, the Unhallowed or any blink loop and it becomes a lockout piece.

Format Analysis

Trapjaw Kelpie is essentially a Commander card — the ETB-flicker ecosystem lives there, and that's the only environment where it consistently overperforms its mana cost. In Pauper it's legal but competes poorly against more efficient commons and rarely sees play. Legacy and Vintage both permit it, but a four-mana 3/3 with a conditional exile trigger has no business in those formats when faster, cheaper answers exist.

Price Context

Current price

$0.10 bulk tier

At $0.10, Trapjaw Kelpie is pure bulk — pick it out of a common box or grab a playset for the price of a coffee. That price is stable; there's no pressure driving it up, but a spike in blink-commander popularity could bump it slightly, so grabbing copies now costs you nothing.
