Tranquil Expanse card art
Tranquil Expanse enters tapped and produces white or green — which is the whole story, and it's not a good one. In a format where untapped dual lands start at bulk prices, there is no compelling reason to run Tranquil Expanse over a Selesnya option that doesn't cost you a turn, except in Emmara, Soul of the Accord builds that deliberately want tapped lands to trigger convoke payoffs.

Emmara, Soul of the Accord

Emmara, Soul of the Accord wants to tap for value, and Tranquil Expanse is one of the cheapest ways to curve into a land that enters tapped — which matters less than you'd think, since Emmara's engine runs through creatures, not lands.

Format Analysis

In Commander, Tranquil Expanse competes against a deep field of budget dual lands and loses most of those fights — Canopy Vista, Sungrass Prairie, and even Selesnya Guildgate offer comparable or better utility at similar prices. In Pauper, the common-legal dual land pool is narrower, so Tranquil Expanse is at least a legal option, though Selesnya Sanctuary's bounce effect gives you more mileage for the same slot. Across Legacy, Modern, and Pioneer, no competitive shell runs Tranquil Expanse when fetchable duals, shocklands, and fastlands are available. It's a filler land in formats where filler lands are a real cost.

Price Context

Current price

$0.09 bulk tier

At $0.09, Tranquil Expanse is deep bulk — you're paying for cardboard, not utility. The price reflects exactly what it is: a land with no scarcity, no competitive demand, and no reason to climb.
