Trail of Mystery
Enchantment
Whenever a face-down creature you control enters, you may search your library for a basic land card, reveal it, put it into your hand, then shuffle.
Whenever a permanent you control is turned face up, if it's a creature, it gets +2/+2 until end of turn.

Trail of Mystery turns every face-down creature into a free land tutor, making it the engine that keeps morph and disguise decks both on-curve and threat-dense simultaneously. Kaust, Eyes of the Glade runs it in nearly 90% of builds because the combination of cheap interaction, ramp, and a two-mana enchantment that rewards what the deck is already doing is simply too efficient to pass up.
Best Commanders
Commanders with the highest synergy

Kaust, Eyes of the Glade
Trail of Mystery is a near-automatic inclusion in Kaust, Eyes of the Glade because every morph or disguise trigger becomes a land tutor, letting Kaust snowball mana advantages while the face-down creature base stays full.

Yarus, Roar of the Old Gods
Yarus, Roar of the Old Gods casts so many face-down creatures that Trail of Mystery functions as sustained ramp throughout the game, fixing mana while Yarus floods the board with threats.

Kadena, Slinking Sorcerer
Kadena, Slinking Sorcerer already draws a card off the first morph each turn; Trail of Mystery stacks on top of that by fetching a land each time, compressing two separate acceleration lines into the same creature-flipping action.

Zimone, Mystery Unraveler
Zimone, Mystery Unraveler prizes repeated face-down triggers, and Trail of Mystery converts each one into a land tutor that keeps Zimone's own ability fueled with the mana it needs to keep firing.

Vannifar, Evolved Enigma
Vannifar, Evolved Enigma's morph-heavy strategy benefits from Trail of Mystery's land fetching to stay ahead of the curve, especially since Vannifar's own cost and activated abilities demand consistent mana across multiple turns.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Trail of Mystery is a Commander card through and through — outside of 100-card singleton, the morph and disguise density required to make land-per-trigger payoffs consistent simply doesn't exist in most competitive lists. In Legacy, Modern, and Pioneer it's legal but effectively unplayed; the formats move too fast for a two-mana enchantment that does nothing the turn it enters without a face-down creature already on the stack. Oathbreaker mirrors Commander closely enough that the same morph-commander shells can slot it in, and it's worth considering there. Stick to Commander when sleeving up Trail of Mystery.

Price Context
Current price
$0.13 bulk tier
At $0.13, Trail of Mystery is bulk by any measure, which makes it one of the most efficient pickups in morph and disguise builds. Given its near-90% inclusion rate in the top Kaust, Eyes of the Glade lists, the price is unlikely to climb meaningfully, but there's no reason to wait — grab copies whenever you're placing an order.
