Tivadar of Thorn enters the battlefield and immediately destroys a Goblin — no targeting, no timing window for the opponent to respond by sacrificing it. The catch is the effect is mandatory and limited to one creature type, so outside dedicated Goblin-hate contexts it's a 2/2 first striker for three mana that does nothing.

In Commander, Tivadar of Thorn is hyper-situational — Goblin tribal is common enough that the ETB trigger will occasionally matter, but slotting a three-mana 2/2 into a 99-card deck as a Goblin answer is almost never the right call when instant-speed removal exists. Legacy and Vintage see enough Goblin synergy packages that Tivadar of Thorn has seen fringe sideboard play, though dedicated hate pieces like Virtue's Ruin do the job more cleanly. Modern's Goblin presence is real but concentrated, and the body doesn't justify main-deck inclusion. Oathbreaker shares Commander's math: you're paying too much for too narrow an effect unless your specific meta is drowning in Krenko, Mob Boss.

Price Context
Current price
$0.25 bulk tier
At $0.25, Tivadar of Thorn is deep bulk — the price reflects the card's narrow playability rather than any supply issue. That floor is stable; there's no realistic scenario that pushes it meaningfully higher.
