Tithe fetches up to two Plains at instant speed for a single white mana — one of the most mana-efficient land tutors ever printed. It's a staple in any white Commander deck that can afford a copy.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Tithe is legal in Commander, Legacy, Vintage, and Oathbreaker, and that's where its entire competitive life plays out. In Commander it's a slam dunk: white's ramp options are historically limited, and grabbing two lands at instant speed on your opponent's end step for one mana is hard to beat. Legacy and Vintage have access to more broken one-mana plays, so Tithe rarely makes the cut outside of dedicated land-based strategies, but it's never embarrassing. Modern, Pioneer, Standard, and Pauper are non-starters — it's not legal in any of them.

Budget Alternatives
Cheaper options that do most of the same work
Sword of the Animist and Isolated Chapel-style taplands are in a different slot entirely — the closest functional replacements are Armillary Sphere and Oreskos Explorer, both under $1. Neither matches Tithe's instant speed or raw efficiency, but Oreskos Explorer comes closest in Commander by scaling the land count off opponents' boards rather than your own.
Price Context
Current price
$5.45 mid tier
At $5.45, Tithe sits in the mid tier — not a budget pickup, but not a painful one either. It's been reprinted enough to stay accessible, and demand from white Commander players keeps the floor stable.
