The Bears of Littjara is a three-card-in-one enchantment that creates a 4/4 Shapeshifter token, then grows every Bear and Shapeshifter you control by +2/+2, then kills a creature or planeswalker your opponent controls — all for five mana spread across three upkeeps. The cost is pure patience: if the game ends before chapter three lands, you've paid five mana for a 4/4 and nothing else.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
The Bears of Littjara lives almost exclusively in Commander, where the three-turn saga clock is a minor inconvenience rather than a death sentence and Shapeshifter tribal synergies run deep. In Modern and Pioneer the card is legal but unplayable — five mana over three turns is a luxury neither format can afford, and Bear tribal has no competitive infrastructure to support it. Legacy and Vintage follow the same logic: the card is technically legal and functionally invisible. Commander is the one place the full saga resolves with regularity, especially in Shapeshifter-matters builds where every Changeling on the board gets the +2/+2 pump from chapter two.

Price Context
Current price
$0.17 bulk tier
At $0.17, The Bears of Littjara is deep bulk — buy a playset for less than a dollar and don't think twice. Demand is narrow enough that the price is unlikely to move unless a high-profile Shapeshifter or Bear commander breaks out and drags the whole tribe with it.
