Temporal Isolation locks a creature out of combat and strips its abilities, but the shadow rider clause means it can still block shadow creatures — a corner case that almost never matters. At two mana for an enchantment-based pacifism effect that leaves the body on board, it's a budget option that belongs in Pauper and nowhere else.

In Commander, Temporal Isolation is outclassed by removal that actually answers the threat — opponents keeping a creature with activated abilities neutered but alive is rarely good enough at a four-player table. Pauper is where Temporal Isolation earns its keep, fitting cleanly into white control shells that want cheap enchantment-based removal at common rarity. Legacy and Vintage are non-starters; the card simply doesn't meet the power threshold. Pauper is the only format where running it is a real choice rather than a concession.
