Swindler's Scheme
Enchantment
Whenever an opponent casts a spell from their hand, you may reveal the top card of your library. If it shares a card type with that spell, counter that spell and that opponent may cast the revealed card without paying its mana cost.

Swindler's Scheme puts a copy of target spell on the stack without paying its mana cost — card advantage and tempo stapled together for three mana. At sorcery speed it's a real constraint, but the raw value of copying a draw spell, tutor, or board wipe for free makes it a legitimate include in spell-copying shells.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |

| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Commander is where Swindler's Scheme lives. Spell-copying commanders — anything that rewards instants and sorceries, or that generates value off casting multiple spells in a turn — treat it as a high-upside three-mana play, especially when the targets are expensive tutors or game-ending sorceries. Legacy and Vintage are technically legal, but the competitive card pool makes a sorcery-speed fork effect far too slow to see play. Oathbreaker is the other relevant format: the smaller game size and spell-focused commanders make it a reasonable consideration if your signature spell is worth copying.

Price Context
Current price
$0.14 bulk tier
At $0.14, Swindler's Scheme is deep bulk — no barrier to picking up a copy. New card prices at this tier can tick up slightly on initial demand, but expect it to settle and stay cheap unless a high-profile commander deck pushes adoption.
