Sustenance card art
Sustenance turns any Food token or spare artifact into a mana-free life payment on demand, which matters most when you're running engines that care about life total or need a slow drip of incidental gain. The upfront cost is a single green mana and it stays in play, so it's a repeatable resource, not a one-shot — the question is whether your deck actually wants that resource.

Sustenance is legal in Commander, Legacy, Vintage, and Oathbreaker, but it's almost exclusively a Commander card — the formats where slow, incremental life gain has time to matter. In Commander, it slots into Food-token strategies, lifegain payoff decks, and any shell that generates excess artifacts and wants a sink for them. Legacy and Vintage don't want it: those formats close too fast for a one-life-per-artifact enchantment to register. Oathbreaker could support it in a lifegain-themed build, but the smaller deck size and faster games make it a fringe inclusion at best.

Price Context

Current price

$0.26 bulk tier

At $0.26, Sustenance is deep bulk — you're not buying this for monetary value, you're buying it because it fills a specific role cheaply. Don't expect the price to move; it's a narrow enchantment with a small audience, and supply is not a constraint.
