Supernatural Stamina saves a creature from removal and returns it to the battlefield with a +1/+1 counter — all for one black mana at instant speed. The catch is negligible: a one-shot trick that doesn't loop without a sacrifice outlet like Viscera Seer, but in the right shell it generates enough value to justify the slot over most protection spells. Yargle and Multani decks run it in nearly half their lists precisely because the math gets absurd when a 9/9 comes back bigger.
Best Commanders
Commanders with the highest synergy

Yargle and Multani
Yargle and Multani kills in one hit if it connects, so Supernatural Stamina does double duty — it blanks a removal spell and gives the commander a permanent size buff, pushing it past combat thresholds that would otherwise trade it off.

Hidetsugu and Kairi
Hidetsugu and Kairi triggers a free spell off the top of the library when it deals combat damage and again when it dies, so Supernatural Stamina turns a single death into a second death trigger while also protecting the investment from a counterspell or targeted removal mid-combat.

Kardur, Doomscourge
Kardur, Doomscourge locks opponents into attacking each other on entry, and Supernatural Stamina lets Kardur die to a redirected attack and immediately re-enter to reset that forced-combat effect, generating repeated goading triggers from a single card.

Deadpool, Trading Card
Deadpool, Trading Card rewards you for dying, so Supernatural Stamina is a cheap way to manufacture a death trigger on demand while simultaneously protecting Deadpool from an opponent's removal when you aren't ready to cash in yourself.

Xantcha, Sleeper Agent
Xantcha, Sleeper Agent goes to an opponent's control, making it hard to sacrifice proactively, so Supernatural Stamina acts as insurance — if an opponent tries to destroy Xantcha before you can redirect or exploit it, you keep the piece and gain a counter.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Commander is by far the most relevant home for Supernatural Stamina — the format's singleton structure inflates the value of instant-speed protection, and commander-centric decks pay a real cost when their general dies to the command zone tax. In Pauper, it sees fringe play in sacrifice-based black decks where the death trigger matters more than the counter. In Modern and Legacy, it's outclassed by protection spells that grant hexproof or indestructibility without requiring a die-first condition, so it rarely makes competitive cuts. Pioneer and Oathbreaker are legal but thin markets for the card.

$0.20 bulk tier
At $0.20, Supernatural Stamina is deep bulk — you're paying pennies for a card that does real work in Commander. Bulk commons at this price point don't appreciate meaningfully, but they also don't depreciate, so picking up copies now or whenever you need them costs essentially nothing.
