Sunfall exiles the entire board and leaves you an Incubator token scaled to how many creatures died — that's a sweeper and a threat stapled together for five mana. Anything short of Elesh Norn or a similarly resilient threat gets erased, and you walk away with something to rebuild around.
Best Commanders
Commanders with the highest synergy
Elesh Norn
Elesh Norn's Praetor body survives nothing, but that's exactly the point — Sunfall clears the path Elesh Norn needs to dominate an empty board. The exile clause means indestructible and regenerating blockers don't interfere with her establishing control the turn she lands.

Brimaz, Blight of Oreskos
Brimaz, Blight of Oreskos floods the board with Phyrexian tokens, so Sunfall's Incubator scales up fast when you time it as a one-sided reset. Wipe their side, convert your token into a massive Phyrexian, and Brimaz keeps producing more.

Elesh Norn, Mother of Machines
Elesh Norn, Mother of Machines cares about entering-the-battlefield triggers, and Sunfall hands you an Incubator that enters and then transforms — two discrete ETB events to potentially double. It's not the primary reason she runs it, but the exile clause doing clean work in a white-heavy shell keeps Sunfall in the 99.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
In Commander, Sunfall is the white sweeper that actually closes the deal — exile beats indestructible, tokens, and graveyard recursion in one line of text, and the Incubator token means you're not rebuilding from zero. Pioneer is where Sunfall saw its most competitive daylight, slotting into midrange and control lists that needed a sweeper with upside in a format full of creature-heavy aggro and token strategies. Modern is legal but too slow at five mana when the format kills on turn three or four; it shows up only in dedicated control shells with enough early interaction to survive that long. Legacy and Vintage are non-factors — the format speed and available options make Sunfall irrelevant in both.

Price Context
Current price
$1.32 cheap tier
At $1.32, Sunfall sits in the cheap tier for what is genuinely one of the stronger white sweepers in Commander. That price reflects post-rotation Standard depreciation rather than actual power level, which makes it an easy include for the effect.
