Starscape Cleric card art
Starscape Cleric converts every life-gain trigger into a drain on each opponent, and in a dedicated life-gain shell that effect snowballs fast enough to end games. The cost is a three-mana 2/3 that does nothing without support — run it alongside Exquisite Blood and a commander like Zoraline, Cosmos Caller and it's a finisher; run it in a generic deck and it's a blank.

Best Commanders

Commanders with the highest synergy

01
Zoraline, Cosmos Caller

Zoraline, Cosmos Caller

91.2% of decks · synergy 0.82

Zoraline, Cosmos Caller is the defining home for Starscape Cleric — Zoraline generates life-gain triggers on a loop, and the Cleric turns every pulse of that loop into damage draining all three opponents simultaneously.

02
Blech, Loafing Pest

Blech, Loafing Pest

50.9% of decks · synergy 0.49

Blech, Loafing Pest rewards players for incidental life gain and loss, and Starscape Cleric slots cleanly into that payoff stack, converting Blech's own triggered drain into further drain and accelerating the death spiral.

03
Dina, Soul Steeper

Dina, Soul Steeper

43.6% of decks · synergy 0.41

Dina, Soul Steeper already pings opponents whenever you gain life, and Starscape Cleric doubles down on that redundancy — two independent drain effects on the same triggers means opposing life totals drop twice as fast.

04
Amalia Benavides Aguirre

Amalia Benavides Aguirre

50.2% of decks · synergy 0.41

Amalia Benavides Aguirre assembles a life-gain loop that explores repeatedly, and Starscape Cleric turns each life-gain event in that loop into a drain trigger, functioning as an alternate kill condition when the Amalia engine is running.

05
Queza, Augur of Agonies

Queza, Augur of Agonies

33.6% of decks · synergy 0.31

Queza, Augur of Agonies punishes opponents whenever you draw, and pairing it with Starscape Cleric in a life-gain draw shell means both triggers fire off the same cards — more redundancy on the drain plan without spending extra resources.

Format Analysis

FormatVerdict
commander

modern
pioneer

vintage
pauper
oathbreaker

Commander is the clear home for Starscape Cleric — multiplayer magnifies every drain trigger into triple the damage, and the density of life-gain commanders in the format gives it consistent, synergistic shells to land in. In competitive 1v1 formats like Modern and Pioneer it's too slow and too dependent on a critical mass of life-gain to compete with what those formats are doing on turn three. Legacy and Vintage are theoretically legal but offer no realistic home — the card lacks the raw power to matter in those environments. Oathbreaker is a reasonable secondary format if your signature spell fuels life-gain, but the same caveat applies: without the right shell it's a 2/3 that gains you nothing.

Price Context

Current price

$0.92 bulk tier

At $0.92, Starscape Cleric sits at the top of bulk pricing — cheap enough to throw into any life-gain build without hesitation, but its value is entirely tied to its playability in Zoraline and Dina shells rather than any scarcity. It's a role-player, not a collectible, so don't expect the price to move unless a high-profile deck makes it a must-have.
