Standard Bearer redirects all auras, Equipment attachments, and other targeting effects that would hit your creatures to itself — a one-card answer to Voltron strategies, Aura-based combo decks, and anything that relies on stacking enchantments on a single threat. The cost is a 1/1 for two mana that dies to a stiff breeze, so it wins games where opponents can't remove it and does almost nothing when they can.

Commander is where Standard Bearer earns its reputation: Voltron commanders like Siona, Captain of the Pyleas and Sram, Senior Edificer are simply stopped cold while it's on board, and it walls off targeted hate like Corrupted Conscience or Umbra Mystic lines entirely. In Legacy it sees fringe sideboard play against Enchantress and Aura-based strategies, though the format's density of removal keeps it from ever being dominant. Pauper is its other meaningful home — the format has enough Aura synergy decks that Standard Bearer can single-handedly dismantle a game plan from the two-slot.
