Sphinx's Disciple draws you a card every time a creature with flying attacks — staple it next to Freed from the Real on an untap-loop engine and it becomes unconditional draw. The three-mana cost is the ceiling here; this is a payoff card that only earns its slot when your deck reliably puts fliers in the air.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Sphinx's Disciple is a Commander card through and through — the format's longer games and creature-heavy boards give it enough triggers to justify the slot, especially in blue decks built around aerial aggression or infinite untap combos. In Pauper it's technically legal but competes with more efficient common draw engines and rarely sees play. Legacy, Modern, Pioneer, and Vintage have zero interest in a three-mana conditional draw trigger when cantrips and card-advantage spells cost a fraction of the mana.

$0.07 bulk tier
At $0.07, Sphinx's Disciple is pure bulk — grab a copy out of any common box without thinking twice. Demand is narrow enough that the price stays flat; this isn't a card that spikes.
