Spellgorger Weird enters as a 3/3 for three mana and grows a +1/+1 counter for every noncreature spell you cast afterward — in a deck that's casting spells every turn, it gets large fast. The rate is real, and the floor of a 3/3 for three is acceptable even if the engine never fires.

In Commander, Spellgorger Weird belongs in spellslinger decks helmed by commanders like Niv-Mizzet, Parun or Mizzix of the Izmagnus, where casting four or five spells a turn turns it into a 7/7 or 8/8 threat by midgame. Pauper is actually where Spellgorger Weird is most competitive — the card pool is shallow enough that a growing common threat demands real answers, and storm or cantrip-heavy Izzet shells give it a genuine home. In Modern and Pioneer it's outclassed by threats that don't require spell volume to earn their rate, so it rarely makes the cut outside of budget or casual brews. Legacy and Vintage have enough broken spells that you can theoretically build around it, but the payoff doesn't justify the slot when stronger threats exist.

Price Context
Current price
$0.21 bulk tier
At $0.21, Spellgorger Weird is deep bulk — you're paying for cardboard and shipping, not the card itself. The price is stable because demand is narrow and supply is wide; don't expect movement in either direction.
