Spellbreaker Behemoth card art
Spellbreaker Behemoth shuts down countermagic for every creature spell you cast with power 5 or greater — the effect is immediate, passive, and doesn't ask for anything back. At four mana for a 5/5, the rate is fine, but you're playing it for the protection text, not the body.

Slinza, the Spiked Stampede

Slinza, the Spiked Stampede

61.9% of decks · synergy 0.59

Slinza, the Spiked Stampede builds around large creatures attacking and dealing damage, and Spellbreaker Behemoth ensures the threats that fuel that engine don't get countered on the way down — a single card that protects the entire top of the curve.

02
Zilortha, Strength Incarnate

Zilortha, Strength Incarnate

37.4% of decks · synergy 0.35

Zilortha, Strength Incarnate cares about power rather than toughness, and Spellbreaker Behemoth's passive immunity applies to every power-5-or-greater creature in the deck, giving the whole board a counterspell shield while Zilortha turns combat math sideways.

03
Mayael the Anima

Mayael the Anima

24.7% of decks · synergy 0.24

Mayael the Anima cheats large creatures directly into play, which sidesteps most counterspells anyway — but Spellbreaker Behemoth covers the gap when you cast those same threats from hand, protecting the whole suite of haymakers that Mayael decks rely on.

Format Analysis

Commander is where Spellbreaker Behemoth earns its slot — blue is everywhere at the table, and a passive effect that makes every power-5-or-greater spell uncounterable punishes anyone trying to hold up Counterspell or Fierce Guardianship against your threats. In Legacy and Vintage it's legal but essentially invisible; the formats move too fast and the creature isn't impactful enough to compete with the engines those formats run. Modern is the same story — the effect is real, but dedicated green stompy shells have more efficient options and Spellbreaker Behemoth doesn't push through enough on its own. Stick to Commander, specifically any green deck that casts big creatures from hand and expects to run into blue opponents.
