Spawn of Thraxes card art
Spawn of Thraxes enters the battlefield and deals damage equal to the number of Mountains you control to any target — in a mono-red Commander deck at peak mana, that's often 10 or more damage the moment it lands. Seven mana is a real ask, but Feldon of the Third Path makes that cost irrelevant by recurring it from the graveyard for three mana a turn.

Commanders with the highest synergy

Feldon of the Third Path

Feldon of the Third Path

28.5% of decks · synergy 0.26

Feldon of the Third Path is the premier home for Spawn of Thraxes because Feldon turns a single cast into a repeatable end-of-turn missile — pay three mana, trigger the enters-the-battlefield damage again, sacrifice the token, repeat next turn.

02
Delina, Wild Mage

Delina, Wild Mage

20.6% of decks · synergy 0.18

Delina, Wild Mage can copy Spawn of Thraxes on attack, and each non-token copy of Spawn that enters fires off another Mountain-count damage trigger — enough successful rolls and a wide board takes lethal from nowhere.

Spawn of Thraxes is legal across Commander, Legacy, Modern, Pioneer, Vintage, and Oathbreaker, but it sees virtually no play outside Commander — seven mana for a seven-power flier with a conditional ETB trigger simply cannot compete in any 60-card format where games end on turn four. In Commander it earns its slot specifically in mono-red or near-mono-red decks running enough Mountains to make the damage trigger lethal, and it's close to unplayable in two- or three-color red builds where the Mountain count stays low. Treat Spawn of Thraxes as a Commander-only card and evaluate it entirely on ETB-abuse potential.
