Soul-Shackled Zombie card art
Soul-Shackled Zombie enters the battlefield and immediately forces each opponent to sacrifice a creature — repeatable board presence stapled to a one-time edict effect. The catch is four mana for a 3/3, which is below rate on its own, so it earns its slot only where Zul Ashur, Lich Lord or a similar death-matters engine turns the enters-the-battlefield trigger into recurring value.

Zul Ashur, Lich Lord reanimates creatures from opponents' graveyards, which means the creatures your opponents sacrifice to Soul-Shackled Zombie's trigger feed directly into Zul Ashur's pool of targets — the edict and the reanimation form a closed loop.

Soul-Shackled Zombie is a Commander card through and through. In a four-player game, the enters-the-battlefield trigger hits three opponents simultaneously, making it a three-for-one edict stapled to a body — that math simply doesn't exist in 1v1 formats. In Modern, Pioneer, and Standard it's too slow and too small to compete with dedicated removal or edict effects that cost less. Pauper has access to cheaper sacrifice effects, and the 3/3 body doesn't compensate. Stick to Commander, where the multi-opponent trigger is worth the four-mana ask.

Price Context

Current price

$0.08 bulk tier

At $0.08, Soul-Shackled Zombie is deep bulk — a pickup so cheap it's essentially free when assembling a Zul Ashur, Lich Lord list. Bulk commons and uncommons at this price tier rarely move unless a deck archetype spikes in popularity, so don't expect the price to change in either direction.
