Soul Link card art
Soul Link turns any creature into a lifegain engine and a pseudo-damage shield in the same card — two effects that together can swing a race single-handedly. The two-mana enchant-creature cost is reasonable, but the real ceiling is on a creature like Boros Reckoner, where every point of redirected damage also triggers the lifegain, creating brutal life-swing loops.

Format Analysis

Commander is where Soul Link does its best work, because 40 life totals and multiplayer combat mean the cumulative lifegain and damage mitigation compound across multiple attackers and blocks every turn. In Pauper it's a legal common, and while lifegain auras see fringe play, the format's creature removal is efficient enough to punish two-for-one setups. Legacy and Vintage have access to Soul Link but the card simply doesn't meet the power bar — there are faster, more resilient ways to generate life advantage. The card lives and dies in Commander, specifically in decks that want to weaponize damage redirection or lifegain triggers.

Price Context

Current price

$0.22 bulk tier

At $0.22, Soul Link is firmly bulk — a throw-in card you pick up without thinking. The price reflects its niche appeal: it won't spike unless a combo piece that enables a degenerate loop with it breaks into the spotlight.
