Solar Tide destroys all creatures of the chosen size — small or large — for five mana at sorcery speed, and the modal choice is what separates it from a simple sweeper. It's a real card in the right shell, irrelevant outside it.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Solar Tide sees essentially zero play in Legacy, Modern, or Vintage — five mana at sorcery speed is far too slow for formats where the game ends on turn three or four, and those formats have cheaper, unconditional sweepers. Commander is the only home where Solar Tide earns a slot, specifically in white decks that want to wipe one end of the size spectrum while keeping their own creatures intact — think a tokens deck clearing large blockers, or a stompy build sweeping away weenie armies. Oathbreaker is legal but faces the same Commander calculus: it works only if your board state splits cleanly from your opponents' on the small/large axis.

Price Context
Current price
$0.78 bulk tier
At $0.78, Solar Tide is deep bulk — you're paying almost nothing for a highly conditional sweeper. The price is unlikely to move; it fills a narrow enough role that demand stays low, so grab it if the shell fits without any concern for the cost.
