Sliver Hive taps for any color of mana in a Sliver deck and, once you have five or more Slivers, produces a 1/1 Sliver token for three mana — a land that extends your board on its own. The First Sliver decks run it as an auto-include: five-color fixing plus token generation on a land slot is a zero-opportunity-cost upgrade over a basic.

The First Sliver
The First Sliver wants as many Slivers as possible to cascade into more Slivers, and Sliver Hive feeds that loop directly — it fixes all five colors and manufactures additional Sliver bodies to cascade off without spending a card slot in the 99.

Commander is where Sliver Hive belongs — five-color Sliver tribal is almost exclusively a Commander format, and the land is a staple there precisely because it handles mana fixing and token production simultaneously. In Legacy and Modern, dedicated Sliver aggro shells exist but move too fast to invest three mana in a land's activated ability, so Sliver Hive sees only niche play as a one- or two-of for its color fixing. Pioneer Sliver support is thin enough that the deck barely exists competitively, making the card a fringe consideration at best. Outside Commander, treat Sliver Hive as a utility piece for brewers rather than a competitive staple.
